Lance Dawson

LanceLance Dawson has been a massage therapist for fourteen years. After attending the University of Waterloo for his undergraduate degree, he went on to Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) to work on a diploma in Business. Lance then went on to complete a diploma in Massage Therapy at Kikkawa College in Toronto. Since successfully completing his board exams Lance has worked with the varsity athletes from Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph. By working with skilled physiotherapists and athletic therapists, Lance has honed his skills in dealing with both the recreational and elite athlete.

After spending three years with the Health and Performance Centre in Guelph, Lance moved over to Waterloo Sports Medicine (WSM) in 2001. Since starting the sports massage program at WSM, Lance has partnered with the Kinesiology department at WLU and published four research papers in the area of massage. He regularly attends the American College of Sports Medicine conference where his work has been presented. Specializing in running injuries, Lance has worked with the Guelph Gryphons and Speed River runners for the last nine years. Now an elite group, Speed River boasts Olympic hopefuls and counts Lance as part of their paramedical team.

Currently Lance is balancing completing his Masters degree in Science, running the massage program at WSM, raising two awesome boys and being a good husband. His wife, Dr. Kim Dawson, is a professor of sports psychology at WLU and joins Lance both in having fun with their boys and working with the elite athletes from Guelph. When not having fun with his family, you can find Lance going for a run or pursuing his other love, music.

Each member of  WSM's massage therapy staff is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and is highly qualified in the administration of therapeutic sports massage.  Aside from being extremely relaxing and stress relieving, massage therapy helps to speed recovery, maintain flexibility and increase circulation to muscles and joints.

We have a loyal group of patients, like marathon runners and triathletes, who come for massage before their heavy activity to prepare for the strain to their bodies.
