Basketball

Abby RadunskeGrowing up I never imagined sports would take me this far, but basketball has allowed me to achieve my goals and provided me with experiences I used to dream only about. I only started playing basketball seriously in Grade 6 with a local travelling team. I spent years developing my skills, eventually earning a full scholarship to play basketball at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

My greatest experience came during my sophomore year when our team made a trip to the NCAA tournament. We were ranked preseason middle of the pack and ended up winning our conference our first year with a new coach. On “Selection Sunday,” we found out we were playing Duke University in the first round of the tournament in North Carolina’s “Dean Dome.” I couldn’t helping thinking, “This is where players like Michael Jordan and Vince Carter played.”

I first came to WSM in Grade 8 to see Dr. Lee who prescribed orthotics for problems with my feet. This has been a constant problem throughout my athletic career and I have missed 19 games in my college career for stress fractures. However, Kim Rau is helping me rebuild orthotics to correct the problem. More recently, Rob Stuart has started giving me sport-specific exercising for strengthening and balance. I am grateful to everyone at WSM for their contribution to my success. 2006
