Success Stories

My name is Matt Carter and I am a high performance athlete with the Canadian National Snowboard Team. I compete in the Parallel Slalom, Giant Slalom and Parallel Giant Slalom disciplines.

I started snowboarding when I was seven years old and have been pursuing my dream of competing for Canada at the Winter Olympics ever since. I was a member of the Ontario Provincial Team for two years before being selected in 2008 to join the Canadian High Performance Program - Canadian National Development Team, and finally to where I am today - a member of the Canadian National Alpine Snowboard Team. For both training and competitions, I travel extensively throughout the year and around the world.

This past season, I had several "podiums" on the NorAm and Europa Cup circuits, and concluded the season ranked second in Canada, and had won the 2011 NorAm Cup Championship.

I will continue to train and compete full-time this coming season to move up in the world rankings and to continue to develop as we approach the 2013 World Championships, follwed by the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. This wouldn't be possible without Dr. Lee and the dedicated therapists at Waterloo Sports Medicine Centre. This summer I injured my MCL just two and a half weeks before I was supposed to leave for a pre-season training camp. I felt truly fortunate to have been able to work with such a great team helping me recover my injured knee. They got me back on my feet and ready to keep training better than I thougt was ever possible.
