Hockey, Ringette

Shawna BarrieHockey is one of my life’s passions and I am so grateful to be back in the game. I have been interested in playing hockey since the age of three when I would play hockey in the basement with my Dad.  I then played road hockey with my brother and started skating at age 5. At the age of 8, when my family moved to Kitchener-Waterloo, because hockey was not offered, I began to play ringette as a goal tender until my mid-twenties. I was fortunate enough to go to the ringette Nationals twice and to come away with one gold and one silver medal from those two events.

I then travelled to France to coach and assist in the development of the sport of ringette.  In my later twenties, I found local hockey games and clinics and eventually the Kitchener Waterloo Women Recreational Hockey League in which I have played as a centre for 14 years. Recently I became Vice-President with the KWWRHL, because I strongly believe in the continued development of ice hockey for women. I have also enjoyed volunteering as a goalie coach for ringette in recent years.
